On Friday, March 8, the day of the working woman is celebrated once again. The theme chosen this year for the International Women's Day 2019, is "Let's think equality, build with intelligence, innovate for change".
This theme focuses on innovative ways to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women, especially in the areas of social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure.
In the hotel & restaurant sector especially, women have always played a key role in their growth and development and, in fact, is the only one among the large sectors of the economy where there are more women than men.
In the hospitality, until recently, the great names of chefs have been almost entirely men, but the gastronomic wealth of our country has been based on the almost anonymous work of so many women, whose talent has been essential not only in the kitchen, but also in the bar and room; as well as in the offices, from where the hotel business owners put at stake their ingenuity and patrimony to carry out their establishments.
Women have shown decades to the world what they are capable of, worked with tenacity and perseverance to prosper and exert influence in an industry dominated by men.
To help eliminate the labor imbalance that still exists, we should fight to eliminate the difficulties to achieve family reconciliation, motherhood and the choice of family over a career.
It is necessary for women to occupy the positions of responsibility that correspond to their presence and contribution in the hospitality sector. And dates like March 8, serve to vindicate and demand them.
